At law school, I was always most interested in subjects that had some international overlap. So I jumped at every opportunity to study abroad. And it was during my first study trip to Groningen in the Netherlands that I enrolled in a course on EU competition law. A subject which, I was later to discover to my horror, was notorious for having a very low pass rate at the local university. I barely passed, but it was there that I fell in love with competition law and never let go. Perhaps because you would be hard pressed to find an area of law with such a strong transnational overlap - no matter where you go in the European Union, competition law is practically the same everywhere.
